The Dog Duchess Pet bakery all started when tragedy struck happy little family and our beloved baby girl Zara had to go in for her first back op when she was just 3 years old. Being a dachshund, we were aware of the breed specific problems that came with having dachshund’s, the dreaded Intervertebral disc disease or better known as IVDD but we weren’t as prepared as we would have liked to have been. Our lives had changed before we even had time to really process everything! 

 

 The op was just a mild bump in the road, it was the care giving & the after math that really took its toll on us as a family! We spent hours wondering what we did to deserve this and shed many tears over it, our home needed to be IVDD friendly so that meant shifting our priorities and renovating the house and after many sleepless nights and a very long and heart sore recovery I knew I had to make sure it did not happen again, or at least that it did not happen to my two boys Zeus and Yorsi. 

 

 My goal was prevention! I was going to strengthen their muscles, strengthen their joints and keep their fussy appetite happy at the same time! So, I got to work, I spoke to doctors and I did all the research I could, I changed up their meals from the conventional mass processed kibble that wasn’t given them enough minerals and vitamins their little bodies really needed to something more wholesome and healthier. The doctors had told us that she wouldn’t make 1 year before needing another op but here we are 2 years later, 2 years ago we were praying for the strength just to get through it all, it has been 2 years since her back op and she is beaming with strength and confidence! 

 

 It was then when it dawned on me that I had to share my love and knowledge for food with everyone, because in a world filled with complexity around dog food information, dog owners are left scratching their heads when deciding what to feed their dogs or what not to feed their dogs, and with our busy lives that we all live time isn’t really on our side if we wanted to cook our own dog healthy food from scratch. So, I took a simple, healthy and fun approach to making dog cakes, treats, food and accessories because simpler is better, health is a priority and life is boring without any fun!
